NatureQuant
Every touchpoint for the startup
measuring nature's effect on health.
Brand, product, and systems, end to end.
Overview
NatureQuant is a health-tech startup measuring how nature affects human health. Their core product, NatureScore, rates any location's health value from its environmental quality, greenery, and access to nature.
As lead designer I shaped the brand, designed the products, and built the tools researchers, city planners, and individuals use.

Challenges
One brand had to read as credible to researchers and approachable to everyone else.
Environmental data is dense. The tools had to make it usable without dumbing it down.
The same data served academics and people checking their neighborhood.
Contributions
Brand
Identity from scratch, and the front-end for naturequant.com.
Urban Heat Index
Designed and built with the data science team: NatureScore plus live temperature data, mapped so planners can see which neighborhoods are most at risk.
NatureQuant OPEN
An open-access version for academics, nonprofits, and city officials. I worked on the UX strategy and the interface for exploring and exporting NatureScore data.
NatureDose Mobile App
The consumer app. Tracks nature exposure passively over GPS and turns it into a weekly goal you can actually hit.
Strategic Communications
Decks, investor materials, and marketing assets. The company has since been covered in the Wall Street Journal and Outside.
Outcomes
NatureQuant products are now used by public health researchers, city governments, and individual users alike.
The NatureDose app helped validate the link between time in nature and self-reported wellness in a real-world context.
The brand and tools gave a small company the presence of a much larger one.
Reflection
Six years in, the thing I keep relearning is that the science only matters if someone can act on it. A NatureScore is a number until it is a map a planner can point at.
